Agnes Anne Psotka was born in Duncan, Iowa on August 5th, 1925 to Albert and Anna Psotka. She was one of 6 children. Her parents were immigrants from Czechoslovakia who settled in a Czech farming community in Iowa.
She lived and helped her parents on the farm until she met a young farmer from Montana. Agnes married William V. Cole on January 24, 1949. They made their home on the farm north of Chester Montana. They raised 4 children, Mary Fritz, William (Pete) Cole, Timothy Cole, and Colleen Boucher.
Agnes had a deep faith and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She could always be found helping with dinners, funerals, and weddings at the church. Her own family Sunday dinners often included the priests and nuns of the parish. Agnes was a lifelong member of the St. Mary’s parish council of Catholic Women.
She also loved flowers and gardening and planting trees. She was a life- long member of the Chester Garden Club.
She was a 4-H leader for many years and made sure all her children were active in 4-H also. She was also a proud member of the Liberty County Cowbells for many years.
Agnes was a wonderful cook, and managed to cook huge family meals even in her 80’s. Her Mother never used a cookbook, and often she didn’t either. Czech dishes were her specialty.
Agnes loved music and loved to sing and dance, especially polka. She and Bill
were members of a square dance club for many years. She made sure her kids all played piano and other musical instruments.
Agnes was bi-lingual and could speak, read, and write In Czech as well as English. She was proud that she often won spelling bees in school.
The light of her life were her 4 children, 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She had many nieces and nephews and loved them all.
She loved getting together with family and friends to visit and play cards.
In their later years Bill and Agnes moved to the Sweet Grass Lodge in Chester, until Bill passed. Agnes eventually moved to Wheat Country Assisted Living. She had many close friends living there, and said the staff treated her like a queen. The family celebrated her 95th birthday there which she enjoyed very much.
