Albert "Tib" Aakre

d. June 15, 2016

Albert Ernest Aakre died peacefully in his sleep in the morning hours of June 15 th , 2016. He was the sole surviving child of Ole and Ellen (Shaw) Aakre, born September 30, 1921 at their homestead southwest of Conrad. Known most commonly by his nickname, “Tib”, he lived his entire life in Pondera County with the exception of his service in the Marine Corps during W.W. II. He served from March 1944 until July 1946 and in the Pacific from August 1944 until July 1946.

Tib attended 'country' elementary school and graduated from Conrad High School in 1941. He enjoyed sports, in particular football and basketball. He remained a fan of high school athletics his entire life. He loved playing cribbage and pinochle, and bowled for many years.

He was a proud farmer with a connection to his part of the earth that never weakened. His life revolved around the seasons and the weather and the crops and the livestock. Although horses and horsemanship were his passion, he admired andstrived for the self sufficiency of raising the necessities of life.

After returning from the service he met and married Clarice Mae Woldstad on October 17, 1947. They raised four children on the family farm; Charlotte, Karen, Daniel, and Russell. Albert and Clarice lived on the farm until health and age required them to move into town in 2013. In Dad's heart he never left his farm.

He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers and one sister; his daughter, Karen; and his son, Russell.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years Clarice; daughter, Charlotte (Loren) Klette of Enaville, Idaho; and son, Daniel (Teresa) Aakre of Conrad. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, June 21, at 11:00 am at Pondera Valley Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.
