Alice G. (Wittmier) Habets

July 17, 1914 — February 22, 2015

Alice Habets, age 100, passed away on February 22, 2015 at Marias Care Center in Shelby.

Alice was born in Bottineau, North Dakota on July 17, 1914 to Chris and Lena Wittmier.  She was one of 13 children.  She moved to Montana with her family in 1928.  There she met her husband, Louis Habets.  They were married on November 27, 1934 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Williams.

Alice and Louis farmed in Conrad and Ethridge, MT while raising 9 children together, later moving to Boise, ID, for several years then returning to the Ethridge farm.  They moved to Great Falls upon retiring, then settled in Shelby in 1997.    Alice was a great cook.  She enjoyed baking, sewing, playing Bingo, and in her younger days, bowling.

She is survived by daughters Nadine Guffin (Bob) of Kalispell, Darlene Smithers (Jerry) of Helena; daughter-in-law Sharon Habets (Denny) of Kevin; sons Gary Habets of Ethridge, Tom Habets of Ethridge, Keith Habets (Toni) of Spokane, WA, Sid Habets (Janet) of Shelby, Doug Habets (Diana) of Shelby; brother, Allen Wittmier of Conrad; 19 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband Louis Habets; parents Chris and Lena Wittmier; sons Bill and Dennis Habets; son-in-law Bob Guffin; grandson Doyle Habets; brothers Elmer, Daniel, Junior, and Vernon; and sisters Minnie, Violet, Ada, Helen, Delores, Dona, and Esther.
