Allen Baker Crowell, age 86, passed away Monday, January 6, 2017, from natural causes at Northern Montana Care center in Havre.
Allen was born to Allen Borden and Constance Baker Crowell on May 3, 1930, in Auburn, New York. He attended school in Auburn and then Dunkirk, New York where he graduated high school. Allen had a core group of friends from junior high through high school, called the Skunks. They never lost touch with each other and later in life they traveled together with their spouses.
Allen was called into active military service with the army from November 1951 until July 1953. He saw active combat in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged.
Allen attended Syracuse University for a short time majoring in Forestry Management. He met Carole, his wife, there. They were married November 7, 1957 in Titusville, Pennsylvania.
Allen worked for Ingersoll Rand and then Air Components and Engineering as vice president of sales until 1981, when the family moved from East Grand Rapids, Michigan to Bozeman, MT. Allen worked at Quality Wholesale Supply until his retirement.
Allen enjoyed fly fishing, hunting, wood working, baking and cooking. He was reading his way through the Bozeman Public Library. He was a Mason. Allen loved spending time with his grandchildren. Grandpa’s Spaghetti Night was a favorite while they visited and did laundry during their college years.
Carole Maxine (Harry) Crowell, age 82, passed away Friday, February 10, 2017 of natural causes at Northern Montana Care Center in Havre.
Carole was born to Paul D. and Cecelia Bauer Harry on January 4, 1935 in Titusville, Pennsylvania. She attended elementary through high school in Titusville. She was active in Girl Scouts. She attended nursing school in Syracuse, New York where she met Allen Crowell. Carole and Allen were married November 7, 1957, in Titusville. They celebrated 59 years of marriage.
Carole received her BSN from the University of Buffalo in 1966. She earned her master’s in nursing in 1980 from Wayne State University. She taught nursing in Wilkes Barre, PA, Grand Rapids, MI, and through MSU, Bozeman. Carole worked for the Bozeman Deaconess Hospital until she retired. She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau.
Carole was active with Eastern Star Order of the Lily, MSU Friends of the Library, and League of Women Voters in Bozeman. She was instrumental in the building of the Dinosaur Playground Park in Bozeman, with much help from her grandchildren.
Carole was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Bozeman and assisted with the compilation of two cookbooks. She was also on the prayer committee.
Allen and Carole are survived by their children: Mary Jane (Terry) Anvik, Barbara (Joe) Larsen, David (Marcia) Crowell, and Thomas (Ann) Crowell. Grandchildren: Christopher (Kirsten) Anvik, Eric (Carlie) Larsen, Katherine Anvik (Stephen) Collord, Sarah Larsen (Chase) Anders, Alana Ferreira, Andrew Zymjewski, 7 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services for Allen and Carole Crowell will be June 10, 2017, at 4:30 p.m. graveside at the Galata Cemetery with military honors for Allen. Following the celebration of their lives together there will be a Grandpa’s Spaghetti Reception held at the Larsen Farm. The family is under the care of the Whitted Funeral Chapel in Shelby.
