Alvin Lunda

April 14, 1953 — May 17, 2012

Alvin Lee Lunda, formerly of Shelby and Valier, died unexpectedly May 17 of heart failure in Ogden, Utah. Funeral services will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Shelby; interment will follow at Valley View Cemetery. A reception will follow at the church. Friends may call at the Whitted Funeral Chapel from 3-8 p.m. Thursday.
Alvin was born on April 14, 1953 at Shelby to Albert F. and Clara (Ladd) Lunda; He attended school in Shelby, graduating from Shelby High School in 1971. He was active in sports during junior and senior high school with track being his favorite. Following graduation, he moved to Utah where he worked in the oil fields and painted cars. There he married Laurie Straw and they had a son, Brian Lee.
He spent a large portion of his career on the North Slope of Alaska working for Nabors Alaska Drilling. He was a driller and tool pusher and made his move from there to Pennsylvania where he was a consultant for Chesapeake and Shell Oil.
Prior to moving to Alaska he married Milissa Kochel of Shelby. While living in Alaska, they had three sons, Jebidiah, Darby and Owen. They eventually moved back to Valier where his boys will make up 3/5ths of the Valier Panther basketball team.
Alvin was a friend to all and an enemy was never made, lighting up a room whenever he entered. Never being one to let things drag him down, he was always the first one on the dance floor and the last one to leave. He spent his remaining years in Ogden, Utah with Kathy Lupton by his side. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his mother.
Surviving are his father, Albert Lunda (Rosalie), brothers Allen (Shirley), Duane (Jill), sisters Danette Duff (Tom), Dona, and Denise Huber (Steve). He is also survived by his sons, Brian Lunda (Tasha), grandson Colter, all of Ogden; Jebidiah, Darby and Owen Lunda of Valier and many nieces and nephews.
