Arnold M. Rohrer

March 22, 1933 — October 18, 2021

Conrad

Arnold Melvin Rohrer, 88, passed on Monday, October 18, 2021.

Arnold was born on March 22, 1933 in Minneapolis, MN to Paul Revere and Sarah (Whitbread) Rohrer.

Arnold graduated from MSU with a civil engineer degree in 1955. He married Roberta B. Busby and they moved to Des Moines, NM. Arnold was employed by Peter Kiewitt and within two months was transferred to Cheyenne, WY. With very little money, they had to spend Roberta’s collection of Indian Head and Buffalo nickels to survive. Arnold felt bad about it because they never got their hands on another. Both agreed it was for a good cause.

In 1960 Arnold started a land leveling business in Conrad. The couple went on to buy land on the Sollid Road where they farmed and built their own home. Arnold was a very hard worker and together they would raise three boys, Jim, Dr. David, and Robert and a daughter, Linda in the Conrad area.

In the late 1960’s, Arnold sold his land leveling business and started Conrad Sand and Gravel. He would own and operate the business until 1980 when he sold Redi-mix to his son, Jim, and son-in-law, Craig. In 1991 Arnold graduated from UofM with a law degree and started his own practice in Conrad. He would retire from his law practice but continue farming.

On Dusty Road, outside of Conrad, Arnold and Roberta would build yet another home out of re-purposed building supplies, of course!

In the winter months when Arnold was not so involved with the farm, he would play bridge. First in Conrad and as he improved, he joined a bridge club in Great Falls where he played twice a week.

After years full of trials and tribulations, on August 17, 2021 Arnold broke his femur after falling from a ladder while trying to fix his baler. He was able to do many chores (not recommended) to get the work done for the Fall.  The last day of his life on this earth he was burning old hay in the yard that prevented snowdrifts. Roberta checked on him and found him sitting in his old red pickup, window down, left hand resting on the windowsill, and head resting on the headrest- Arnold was at peace. For the rest of her life, Roberta will cherish the look of rest and peace on his face!

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 23, at 2:00 PM at Pondera Valley Lutheran Church. A reception at the church will follow the burial.
