Avis Berkram

Avis Gene Ronning Berkram passed away July 31, 2024. Avis was born in Libby, Montana on June 12, 1937 to Sven and Katie (Sveet) Ronning. Shortly thereafter the family moved to a farm east of Froid, Montana. Avis was the second of four children. Her siblings included Arvid Ronning, Kennet Ronning, and Sonja Sprenger. Avis attended country school through eighth grade. She attended high school in Bainville, Montana graduating in 1954. Following graduation Avis attended Presentation School of Nursing affiliated with Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City, Montana. She completed her schooling in 1957 and began her career as a registered nurse. She worked in eastern Montana before moving to Cut Bank to work. It was in Cut Bank that she met her future husband.

On October 23, 1960 Avis married Kenneth Berkram. They had two children, Ole and Jennifer. After she married, she took a break from nursing to be a farm wife and to raise her family. Avis and Kenneth were avid supporters of their children’s and grandchildren’s activities. She returned to her nursing career in 1979. She worked at the Browning Hospital, Dr. John Wallace’s clinic, and the Cut Bank Hospital and Nursing Home before retiring. Avis loved being a nurse and caring for others. She often remembered with fondness the babies that she helped bring into the world. She also enjoyed traveling for pleasure.

 Avis was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her two brothers and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is survived by her son Ole of Dillon; her daughter Jennifer (Erich) Hansen of Aiken, South Carolina, five grandchildren, Sadie (Richard) Blake; Amanda (Justin) Hedgecock, Jackson Berkram, Renata Hansen, and Magdalina Hansen; six great grandchildren, and one great, great granddaughter. She is also survived by her sister Sonja Sprenger, her sisters-in-law Vonnie Ronning and Connie Ronning and numerous nieces and nephews.

Service will be Saturday, August 10, at 10:00 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. A reception at the church will follow burial in Crown Hill Cemetery.
