Barbara E Cain

August 6, 1946 — August 12, 2011

Barbara Elaine (Coen) Cain, 65, recently retired Cut Bank Public School Administrative Assistant, left us much too soon on August 12, 2011 at Northern Rockies Medical Center from natural causes.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Cut Bank with a reception to follow at the Moose Lodge. Whitted Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Condolences for the family may be sent to www.whittedfuneralchapel.com.

She was born August 6, 1946 in Cut Bank to G.O. and Bette (Grant) Coen. Barb attended school in Cut Bank graduating from Cut Bank High School in 1965 and then from Kinman Business School in Spokane.

Barb’s love of animals became apparent at a young age. She worked for a time at the Northern Vet Clinic for Doc Johnson and loved every minute of it. In 1996 she started a pet sitting service and her clients knew she loved all of “her animals” like they were her own. In her lifetime she has adopted and rescued many cats and dogs, and either kept them or found them a good home which was not easy to live up to her animal standards. She was an avid supporter of the Cut Bank Animal Shelter and believed there were no bad animals.

In 1982 Barb went to work for the Cut Bank School District where she began touching many lives. She started as an aide at South Side Grade School and soon moved up as the High School Secretary and until her death was the Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent. Barb was far more than a secretary to those who worked with her. She would go out of her way to help anyone even if it meant adding more work to her load. In her High School days she touched many, many students and greeted them all with her beautiful smile. In 2009 she decided to retire, but stayed on part time as she just wasn’t ready yet. In the past weeks we have been told school cannot possibly start without Barb.

Barb’s civic obligations were just as important to her. She was a member of Chapter M PEO; served as past Senior Regent for the Women of the Moose; and was a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

In 1967 Barb married James Racki; they later divorced but remained the best of friends. Out of that union came two children, Jamie and Scott whom she always supported without fail. In 1986 Barb married Rick Cain; they later divorced.

Barb was blessed with 2 wonderful grandchildren Katryna and Cody who are her pride and joy. She loved attending their sporting events and concerts but even more loved being with them.

Barb will ever be missed by those she has left behind: daughter Jamie and her husband Tim Freed; son Scott and his wife Janette Racki; two grandchildren, Katryna and Cody Racki; brother Gary and his wife Darlene Coen; nephew Mike and his wife Teresa Coen; and great nephew and niece, Tanner and Mattison Coen, all of Cut Bank. Most importantly her faithful companions Lucy and KC. Also surviving is Barb’s Missoula family: Maureen Widhalm, Granddaughter Brooke, Josh & Trace Thorson, Jeremy, Saxon, Tyler & Madison Inabnit and Josh, Mary, Grace and Emma Inabnit.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Barb will live on forever in our hearts and will be missed more than life itself.
