Barbara Skeslien, 71, passed October 2, 2021.
Barbara was born October 13,1949 in Park Falls, Wisconsin to Theresa (ne’e Little) and John Bayuk. As a teen, Barb started her career in the kitchen of The Dixie Inn. She then worked at Mountain Bell as a telephone operator. She and Ed, her beloved husband of 53 years, farmed in Dunkirk until they retired.
In 1967, Barb and Ed married and were blessed with two children. Each Thursday for ten years, Barb took her mother, who never learned to drive, to the grocery store and the library. In doing so, she taught her daughters that books are as nourishing as food, as well as the importance of family.
Barb was an avid quilter and reader. She enjoyed being a member of the Triangle Squares Quilt Guild. She took karate for seven years. She loved traveling and visited all fifty states as well as twenty countries. Her favorite trip was to Alaska with her entire family.
She loved nature and planted over 200 trees donated by the Conservation Service. She made quilts to be given to children in ambulances. As a member of the Council of Catholic Women, she helped clean the church and prepared food for funeral services. She helped people, quietly making their most difficult days more bearable.
She is survived by her husband, Ed; two daughters, Janet (Eddy) Skeslien Charles and Kathy (Andy) Skeslien; and two granddaughters, Thresa and Alivia Skeslien Jenkins; her siblings, Diane Feland, Mike (Diane) Bayuk, and Mary Beth (Steve) Gaub; numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and younger brother, Robert Bayuk.
Donations can be made to Friends of the Toole County Library and Hospice.
