"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain for the old order of things has passed away." Rev 21:4
On March 10, 2016 Bennie Ruff was escorted from his pickup to the gates of heaven by his guardian angel.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, March 15 at Whitted Funeral Chapel in Shelby, who has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements. The funeral service will be 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 16 at the New Life Community Church in Shelby, followed by a reception for friends and family at the Shelby Civic Center.
Bennie was born April 23, 1931. He was raised with his 6 brothers and 4 sisters by his parents John and Carolina Ruff. He grew up farming in Forsyth, the Fairfield Bench, and Manhattan Montana.
Bennie married Phyllis Bryant April 27, 1951. They were about to celebrate 65 years together. Bennie and Phyllis had five children; Gary (Teri), Randy (Kim), Bonnie (John) Whitney, Brenda (Hans) Lange, and Kendra. These children blessed Bennie with 17 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren.
Bennie and Phyllis spent their early years in Great Falls and then moved to Shelby in 1965. In Shelby, Bennie planted deep roots which branched into many fruitful years. He faithfully and devotedly worked hard to provide for his family that he loved dearly. He served his community, his church, and his family until the day he died.
Bennie was a cowboy as an avid horseman all of his life. He had many friends and never entered a new establishment without meeting someone. He held a special place in his heart for each of his children and grandchildren. He purposely knew each of their interests and accomplishments and was very proud of them all. Bennie carried a burden for those less fortunate than him (especially children) and was extremely generous and giving.
Perhaps Bennie's greatest accomplishment was the example he set as a husband. He adored Phyllis as much as any man could. He was a true life example of "for better or worse, for richer or poorer, and in sickness and health, until death do we part". Bennie was faithful in remembering those friends and loved ones that left his world before him.
He will be so terribly missed by his wife, his children and their spouses, his two generations of grandchildren, two sisters (Emma and Esther), two brothers (Dan and Joe), many special nieces and nephews, and countless friends. Dad, you are forever in our hearts. We love you so much, until we meet again.
