Betty L. Welker

September 17, 1924 — March 10, 2017

Betty L. Welker, 92, of Shelby peacefully passed away of natural causes on March 10, 2017 at her son’s home in Essex, MT.  She was born on September 17, 1924 to Harold and Myrtle Miller. Betty was the oldest daughter in a family of 11 with 7 boys and 4 girls.

Betty married Miles E. Welker in 1943. After Miles was discharged from the Army together they opened the B&M Grocery in Shelby.  They operated the store until 1969 followed by a much-needed vacation. Betty was a very hard worker.  She worked at G&G Lanes and was a hostess at The Griddle until retiring at the age of 86.

Betty enjoyed bowling on a league, playing bingo and dancing at the Senior Center, watching her grandchildren and the San Antonio Spurs play basketball.  She loved to travel, put puzzles together, go to the mountains, visit and have fun.

Survivors include her son, Jerry (Donna) and children, Greg (Anita) and Bruce (Malena) and daughter, Sharon Isbister, and children, Dan (Meriah) and Wendy (Jenn); 4 great grandchildren, Sutton, Ethen, Cole, and Kiah; 3 great grandchildren, Jaycee, Allen, and Shonie; and sister, Mary Jean Reeser.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers and sisters.

Memorial services will be May 17, at 11:00 AM at Shelby United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the church.
