Bill Carl, 71, was born in Cut Bank on May 8, 1942 and went to meet the Lord on Thursday, May 23, 2013.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, May 30 at 1 p.m. at Prairie Peace Lutheran Church in Cut Bank. Whitted Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be posted at www.whittedfuneralchapel.com.
Bill spent most of his life in Cut Bank. He became the man of the house at 10, when his dad died. He took over and helped his mom farm a small piece of ground up north. He got a job on an oil rig when he was 16 and went on to spend the next 55 years with oil under his nails.
He loved muscle cars. He spent countless hours in the garage with friends tinkering on anything with a motor. He wanted them to go faster and make more noise. He won dozens of trophies for drag racing.
He married Sandy Hale in February 1964 and the couple had two daughters. While the girls were growing up, the Carl family spent most weekends in the mountains. Hungry Horse was a summer favorite for camping, boating and huckleberry picking. Winter weekends were spent on snowmobiles at Summit or Skyland.
Bill was a devoted family man. He had five grandchildren and rarely missed a school or sporting event. He attended hundreds of rodeo, O-Mok-See, basketball, volleyball, football, wrestling and softball games. He was known as “Grandpa Bill” to the whole team, parents and coaches.
Bill lived the “Golden Rule” every day of his life. He would say, “A stranger is just somebody I haven’t met yet,” and he treated everyone like a long lost friend.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sandy; daughters, Belinda VandenBos and Brenda Hoover; grandchildren, Wade (Janna), Cassie and Willy VandenBos, Tamara and Brittny Hoover; a sister, Janice (Allen) Brown; nieces Crystal and Laurie and family; and his mother-in-law, Maxine Hale; sister-in-law, Myrna (Allen) Kutt; and nephews Scott and Bart Kutt and families.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Della-May Carl; younger brother, Donny; nephew, Carl Brown; and great-niece, Sadie.
