Carole Ann Powell Taylor, 74, of Babb, a retired EMT died November 9, 2011 at Benefis East in Great Falls of multiple health issues. Services will be at 12:00 noon, Saturday, November 12. Visitation will begin Thursday evening, November 10. Services and visitation will be held at Hook’s Hideaway north of Babb. She will be interred in the Powell Family Cemetery. Whitted Funeral Chapel of Shelby is in charge of arrangements.
Carole was born December 25, 1936, to Eldon “Dutch” Powell and Ethelyn Carpenter Powell, joining older brothers, Ronald “Billy” and James. She attended schools in Babb and Browning. In April 1953, Carole married Douglas Duane Taylor of Malta and had four children. Doug passed away in 2001.
Carole worked in many positions throughout her life. She broke horses, was a ranch wife, meat cutter, cook at Kicking Horse Job Corp, and clerk at the Browning Western Wear. Carole was timer and secretary for rodeos throughout the western states. She volunteered as an EMT for the Babb-St Mary EMS for 20 years until retiring in 2007. Carole served as Chairman of the Blackfeet Tribal Health Board and testified before Congress for the new hospital in Browning.
Carole was an avid Edmonton Oilers and Edmonton Eskimos fan. She enjoyed playing cribbage and pinnacle; reading; fishing, watching hockey - especially her grandsons’, granddaughter’s and great-grandson’s hockey teams. Carole most enjoyed being a grandmother and an “Old Gramma”.
Survivors include daughters, Debra Powell-Taylor and Denise Taylor of Babb, and Dona Rutherford of St Mary/Browning; son, Douglas “Bill” Taylor of Babb; brother, James Powell of Helena; cousins, Robert Powell of Browning and Audrey Vaile of Babb; grandchildren, Scott (Shay) Crawford of Westminster, CO, Josh (Sarah) Taylor of Great Falls, Jaime Taylor of Gillette, WY, Tyler Augare of Clearfield, UT; great-grandchildren, Breydan, Cody, Cheyanna, Brendan, Malana, Alan, Halle, Madison, Taylee, Jace, Ty and Antoinette.
Carole was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother, Billy; sister-in-law, Dawn Powell; nephew, Michael Powell; uncles, Charles “Bubbles” and Henry “Amp” Powell; aunt, Jessie Powell; and cousin Johnny Powell.
