Coleen Isabel Irgens, 86, passed away October 9, 2016 in Savannah, Georgia. She was well liked by all. Coleen was born Oct 28, 1929 in Calvin, ND to Walter and Lena Crummy. She attended school in Calvin until the family moved to Cut Bank where Coleen graduated high school in 1946 at the age of 16. After attending Montana State University, she moved to Japan then later to Seattle where she lived with her cousin Isabel Lallo. Coleen married the love of her life, KC “Corky” Irgens in June of 1968 and returned to Cut Bank. Together they enjoyed raising their children, traveling to all corners of the United States and the world as well as spending time with friends. Coleen was a friend to all who had the fortune of knowing her. Her role extended beyond being a proud daughter, wife and mother. Not only did she and Corky raise their own children, Coleen served as a mom to every swim team kid that crossed her path in the state of Montana, many of whom still refer to her as Mom. She was employed at the County Treasurers office for many years as well as contributing to the Cut Bank community throughout her life. Coleen was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, PEO, the Senior Citizens Center, supported the Wishing Well Foundation and was always lending a helping hand in her kids’ school and sporting activities. Coleen, like her mother Lena, was honored as a Cut Bank Outstanding Citizen of the Year as well as Parkview Senior Center Senior of the Year. She was the local representative for the American Red Cross and American Cancer Society, assisted with the Oilmen’s Golf Classic for over 20 years, served as a den mother, brownie leader, and Sunday school teacher. Coleen loved being on the bleachers to cheer on the home team and continued her love of all things sports throughout her life as she diligently cheered on the Cowboys and the Suns. Spending time with her eight grandchildren was a priority in her life. There were few things that brought her as much joy as spending time with her kids and grandkids, attending their activities and spoiling them as best she knew how. She was constantly on the go or in the process of making plans for her next trip. In her downtime, she loved reading, getting out to shop or dine with friends, going to the horse races or just enjoying a cup of coffee with friends. Friends and family knew that they were welcome to stop by anytime and the pot of coffee was always on. Coleen was quick witted and ready with an easy smile and words of encouragement for all. Her cheerful nature was infectious as she positively impacted all she met.
Coleen is survived by her three sons, Mike Tweedy (Lek) of Houston; John Irgens (Karla) of Colorado Springs; and Casey Irgens of Coeur d’ Alene; her loving grandchildren, Eva and Isabel Tweedy, Riley Moreland and Andy Irgens and Jack, Abby, Charlie and Ella Irgens. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law Jay, and two daughters, Coleen MacMaster and Julianne Irgens.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, July 18, at 11:00 AM at Cut Bank First Presbyterian Church.
