Curtis was preceded in death by his mother Rose (Wandler) Kanning and his father Frederick Kanning; and baby brothers Theodore and David.
Curtis was born on July 16, 1939 in Scobey, Montana but lived on the family farm near Plentywood, Montana. When he was about five, the family moved to a farm east of Shelby, Montana where they have continued farming ever since.
Curtis was defined by his love for his family, his faith and his guitar and his love for flying.
At about twelve, Curtis began playing guitar and as he progressed, he enjoyed entertaining with his family and friends--and especially later in life he enjoyed entertaining at various nursing homes and senior centers, and taking time to visit with them. He was also a private pilot and loved giving friends and family rides to view the Montana landscape from above, but insisted the real "need" for the plane was a farming expense. Many appreciated his soft-spoken good nature, his easy laugh, and Betty fondly remembers him for his proneness towards completely redesigning the interior of their house every few years! And among his closest friends and family Curtis is remembered as a faithful Witness of Jehovah. When the prison was built in Shelby he really enjoyed bringing his faith and love for Jehovah to the inmates who had an interest in the scriptures.
He will be missed by all those who were touched by his life.
