Dale was born May 7, 1947 in Alliance, Nebraska. He attended grade school in Chamberlain, S.D and Sioux City, Iowa. The Davis family moved to Shelby in 1961. He graduated from Shelby High School in 1965 and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966.
Dale was a highly decorated Vietnam combat veteran who served in Company D, 2nd Battalion (Airborne) 8th Cavalry. Among other honors Dale was awarded the Vietnam Air Medal for his 25 aerial missions as well three Bronze Service Stars for his meritorious achievements. He received his honorable discharge in 1968.
Dale, known as “Korny” to his many friends, was a lifelong Nebraska Cornhusker fan. Korny was skilled at many occupations and worked in many places in Alaska as well as Montana. From running cattle at the family stockyards to oil rig roustabout to fine carpentry, Korny was a willing and hard working man.
Korny will be remembered for many things but most of all for his generous nature which led him to volunteer to help any one that needed help. For his kind soul as he acted to help the less fortunate. For his loyalty to friends that had him be a true friend whatever the circumstances and for his funny side where he laughed at the unpleasant aspects of life and encouraged others to do the same. His humorous side lightened life from the dark moments in Vietnam to barroom conversations. He will be missed.
Dale is survived by his sisters Delores (Doug) Dye of Kalispell, Kathy Davis of Billings, bothers Mickey Davis of Shelby and Bob (Deanna) Davis of Chugiak, AK. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucille Davis and Maurice Davis, his brothers Daniel and Timothy and a sister Connie Burroughs.
