Della Frances (Porter) Frazer, 97, of Shelby, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, at the Marias Care Center. Visitation is Sunday, October 16, from 1:00 until 7:00 pm and funeral service 11:00 am Monday, October 17, both at the Whitted Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in the Valley View Cemetery.
She was born to Mary Catherine Roberts and Samuel Allen Marcum on October 23, 1913 in Govan, Washington. Her family moved to Montana in April of 1916 and resided in Pondera County. She married Raymond L. Porter on October 22, 1932 and they farmed southwest of Dunkirk until 1937 and then moved to Shelby where she cared for Raymond’s parents in their final years.
Della and Raymond had three sons, Ernest (Carol) Porter, Floyd Allen Porter, and James (Ginny) Porter, all of Shelby, and two daughters, Frances (Bob) Jacoby of Cut Bank and Darlene (Donley) Beach of Shelby. Della had many great friends and was very proud of her 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; 2 brothers; 5 sisters; grandson Brian Keith Hughes; and daughter-in-law, Dorothy Porter.
Della had worked at the Ben Franklin store in Shelby and also cooked at the Toole County Hospital. She spent several years taking care of her husband until his death in 1973. She later graduated from Beauty College in Missoula and returned to Shelby. She then married Edmond Frazer on December 19, 1979. Ed passed away in December of 2010.
Della served with “The Army Mothers”, “Women of the Moose”, “Royal Neighbors”, “The VFW Auxiliary” and a Pinochle club. She also enjoyed bowling.
