Donald James Chisolm

May 21, 1929 — August 16, 2013

Donald J. Chisholm, 84, an Army Veteran and lifelong brick layer from Shelby, passed away Friday, August 16, 2013 at the Marias Care Center. Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Friday, August 23, at the Whitted Funeral Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery. He was born to George and Angeline (Miller) Chisholm on May 21, 1929 at Gary, MN where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1948. That same year he and his brother, Tom, came to Shelby to help build the hospital; they never left.

He served 3 years with the US Army during the Korean Conflict before returning to Shelby. In 1957 the two brothers started Hi Line Masonry and operated it together until Don’s passing on Friday.

Don had a strong professional work ethic, he loved what he did - it was his life - and he was always talking shop. Don was a simple man and very proud of the lasting friendships he cultivated over the years.

He was a member of the VFW and Bricklayers Union. He enjoyed working and going to Deadwood.

Don is survived by his brother, Tom, of Shelby and his sister, Elizabeth Noble, of Minneapolis, MN. He is predeceased by his parents, three sisters, Dorothy, Florence and Margaret, and two brothers, Harley and John.
