Doris Snuffer, a long-time resident of the Galata community, passed away December 28, 2022, at the age of 99 years, 10 months due to natural causes.
Memorial services will be Friday, January 6, at 10:30 at Whitted Funeral Chapel Shelby. A reception at Clark’s Family Restaurant will follow service.
Doris was born February 26, 1923, in Galata, MT, to Van and Ethel (Williams) Childers, the youngest of three children. She grew up and graduated from Galata High School.
On October 8, 1941, she married Darwin Snuffer. The couple farmed north of Galata until 2002 when they moved to Great Falls. In 2010, they moved to Wheat Country Estates, an assisted living facility in Chester, MT. Doris moved to Liberty County Nursing Home three years ago.
Doris was a true farm wife: dedicated to her family, home and garden, while also driving truck and tractor. She was known for her delicious cinnamon rolls, which she shared with the community.
Doris and Darwin LOVED TO DANCE, travel and visit family and friends. They were members of the Galata Lutheran Church.
In Doris’ later years, grandkids, great grandchildren and great- great grandchildren gave her joy. She also enjoyed the many visitors who spent time with her.
Survivors include daughter Carolyn (Bob) Christenson of Rudyard, son Don (Gail Ohs) Snuffer of Whitefish, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren with another on the way.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, parents, and brothers, Riley and Elmer and their spouses.
The family would like to thank the staff at Wheat Country Estates and Logan Health Nursing Home for their excellent care. Memorials may be made to the Hi-Line Health Foundation in Chester or a charity of choice.
