Dorrie J. Stevens

August 1, 1928 — February 28, 2017

Doris “Dorrie” Jeanette Perry Stevens, 88, passed away February 28, 2017 at Marias Care Center from complications of cancer.

A celebration of life gathering will be held Saturday, March 4, from 3pm to 5pm in the Dempsey Gibbons Room at the Shelby Comfort Inn.

Dorrie was born August 1, 1928 in Hardin, MT to D.L. and Buelah (Ray) Perry. Schooling was always a hardship for Dorrie.  She lived away from parents for all but one year.  She attended school in Hardin Montana staying with her grandparents.  She attended high school in Forsyth Montana graduating in 1947.  It was here she met her high school sweetheart, Keith Stevens.  Keith and Dorrie were married November 17th, 1948 in Forsyth Montana.  They enjoyed 68 year together. The newlyweds lived on the historical Bug Ranch on Otter Creek near Ashland, Mt working with Dorrie's parents.  In 1953 Keith and Dorrie purchased the Brock place on Home Creek near Ashland.  Their Son K.P. And his wife Suzanne still reside on the family ranch. In 1998 Keith and Dorrie moved to Shelby, Mt to be closer to their daughter, Tracy and their granddaughters. They enjoyed watching them grow into strong independent women

Keith and Dorrie embraced the Shelby community making many new and special friends.  The Shelby community embraced them for which we are grateful. Dorrie was a woman of many talents.  She was pianist accompanying Keith at weddings and funerals.  She was an accomplished knitter and enjoyed doing crafts and sharing them with family and friends.  She worked by her husband's side on the ranch doing the usual ranch wife duties.

Flowers were a passion of Dorrie's.  She maintained a beautiful yard, both on Home creek and in Shelby.  Yards featured rock formations, fish ponds and a waterwheel.  She accomplished all this with her husband by her side.

In the 1980's Dorrie found a hidden talent inspired by her husband. She began carving Old World Santas.  Her work was featured at the C.M. Russell Art Show in Great Falls. She shared many Santas with her friends and family.  They will be treasured.  Dorrie enjoyed genealogy in her later years.  She compiled a book for each of her children sharing their rich family heritage.  We will treasure this heart felt work on her part.

Dorrie was a prayer warrior.  She would drop everything and pray for you.  She loved the Lord and found peace in his word. She loved teaching women's bible studies and sharing how the Lord worked in her life.  One could see her love for her Heavenly Father through her smile and twinkling eyes and actions.

Survivors include husband, Keith; children, KP (Suzanne) Stevens and children, Ehrin (Joanne) and Lindsay of Ashland, MT, Connie (Dick) Wilson and children, Chad (Michelle), Kelda, and Keegan (Amber) of Broadus, MT, and Tracy (Rick) Stevens and children, Morgan and Hannon of Shelby; great grandchildren, Ashley, Haley, DJ, Wilson, Tate, Zoe, Page, Olivia Stevens; and brother, David (Kelly) Perry of Spokane.
