Elmer Cecil Childers

June 18, 1920 — October 25, 2015

Born June 18th, 1920, to Van & Ethel Childers in Galata MT, died October 25th, 2015 in Bozeman MT.

Viewing will be at the Whitted Funeral Chapel in Shelby on November 2nd from 5-7 PM and the funeral service will be held at the Whitted Chapel on Tuesday, November 3rd at 2 PM, followed by interment and military honors at the Mountain View Cemetery.  There will be a friendship gathering following at St Luke's Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in Shelby. In lieu of flowers and remembrances, please contribute to your favorite charity.

Elmer attended school in Galata, graduated from Galata High School, and joined the Army Air Corp in 1942, serving 3 years on duty. Following his tour, he met and married Marjorie Maki in 1948.  They had 5 children, Warren (Kris), Charlotte NC; Lynda, (Gilbert), Ulm, MT; Bryan, (Deb),Tucson, AZ; Denise (Gordon), Havre, MT; and Les Childers Galata/Bozeman.

Elmer farmed for 40 years north of Galata on property his parents homesteaded. He retired from farming in 1986, and moved to Bozeman, where he lived with Marj until she passed in 2006. He continued to live in Bozeman, where he could be found most mornings enjoying a blueberry pancake at the Western Cafe and on Thursday evenings at the Korner Klub for steak night.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; brother Riley; grandson John Thompson; and a brother-in-law Darwin Snuffer.

He is survived by his 5 children, 9 grandchildren, sister Doris Snuffer, several nieces and nephews, and many friends.
