Mrs. Emma P. Johnston 98, Shelby, Montana passed away September 3, 2014. Emma was born March 3, 1916 in Brooks, Minnesota. She had seven siblings.

Emma married John (Jack) Johnston April 18, 1933. In 1959 they moved from Minnesota to Shelby where they raised four children Elizabeth (Betty), Neil, Daniel and Robert (Bob).

Emma was a career business woman working at the Shelby Bakery and at the Toole County Hospital until 1965. She then moved to Mill Valley California where she owned and operated two successful Assisted Living Homes until she retired in 1989. In 2000 she moved back to Shelby to be closer to family.

Emma was a vibrant woman. She “adopted” many people during her life’s journey and truly considered them family. She was known for her wit and love of life until her time of passing.

Emma was proceeded in death by; her husband Jack Johnston, daughter Elizabeth (Betty) Hanson, son-in-law Curtis Hanson and sons Neil and Dan Johnston all of Shelby. She was also proceeded in death by her seven brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her son Robert (Diane) Johnston of Shelby, MT. and a daughter-in –law Barbara (Nick) Fay of Campbell, CA. Eight grandchildren; Larry (Theresa) Hanson of Tacoma, WA., Linda Hanson, Debra (Larry) Yarn, Darrel (Lisa) Hanson all of Shelby. Heidi (Chris) Johnston, Daniel (Therese) Johnson, Joshua Johnston and Wendy Johnston all of California. Fifteen great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside Memorial Services are planned for September 20, 2014 at 3:00 pm, Mountain View Cemetery Shelby, Montana.
