Esther J. Briese, 70, a retired homemaker and business owner from Cut Bank, passed away Monday, May 9, 2011, at the Northern Rockies Medical Center due to natural causes. Funeral services are 11:00 am Saturday, May 14, at the Prairie Peace Lutheran Church with burial to follow in the Crown Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include her sons, Mel (Debra Ann) Briese of Gallatin Gateway and Lon (Deborah Ann) Briese of East Peoria, IL; sisters, Pam Butler of Colorado and Mabel Becker of Mandan, ND; brother, William Egdorf of Minnesota; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Esther is preceded in death by her father, Edward Egdorf; mother, Rose Christopherson; daughters, RoxeAnn Harmon and Ginger Wilson Briese; sisters, Peggy Bowers and Mary Ann Scheffknecht.
She was born May 31, 1940 at Walhalla Township, MN where she grew up and was educated. She and Norman Briese were married December 24, 1956 at South International Falls, MN. They moved to Havre in 1963 and then to Cut Bank in 1972.
After her husband’s death in 1984, she started the North Winds Upholstery Shop which she operated until 2000.
Esther was very involved in the community and volunteered much of her time to church and various causes, especially the food pantry.
She was a member of the Prairie Peace Lutheran Church. Esther enjoyed traveling with her husband on their motorcycle as well as camping, fishing and hunting.
