Eugene A. Nelson, 76, of Cut Bank, died July 20 at the Marias Care Center in Shelby. He was born at St. James, Minnesota September 16, 1934 to Ervin and Myrtle (Wright) Nelson. He graduated from St. James High School in 1952.
He was united in marriage to Ardell Lunz September 22, 1953 and they resided in the South Branch, Minnesota area where he was employed by various businesses including the South Branch General Store, Alyce-Chalmers, Wantonwan Farm Service, Robert Voss, Kolstad Construction, Duke’s Supper Club and the Nelson Family Farm until the end of 1974. He and Ardell were later divorced.
He had resided in Sanborn, Minnesota until moving to Cut Bank where he had resided for 35 years following his marriage to Janis Wohlfeil. He was a welder mainly on the oil rigs and owned his own welding shop. Due to declining health, he had resided in the Marias Care Center since 2008.
He enjoyed hunting, horseback riding, ranching, motorcycling and fabricating unique items out of metal; he also got much enjoyment out of spending time with his friends.
Survivors include special friend Ann Dobos DeBoleraz of Great Falls; a son, Randall (Pam) Nelson of Madelia, MN; daughters Jill (Mark) Runge of St. James, MN; and Gina Simonovich of Missoula; 4 step-children, Rebecca, Ellen, Jesse and Benjamin Wohlfeil and their families; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Gerald (Roberta) Nelson, sister Charlotte (Donn) Holmquist and sister-in-law Judy Nelson, all of St. James, MN; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother Russell and many other relatives.
Private services will be conducted at a later date. Arrangements are by the Whitted Funeral Chapel of Cut Bank.
