Eva A. (Snyder) Burney, 74, of Cut Bank, died of natural causes on Thursday, December 22, 2011, surrounded by family at her daughter’s home in Kevin.
Visitation is Monday, December 26, from 1 to 7 p.m. at Whitted Funeral Chapel in Cut Bank. Her funeral is Tuesday, December 27, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Cut Bank followed by burial in the Crown Hill Cemetery.
Eva was born January 28, 1937 in Sidney, Nebraska to Carl and Elizabeth (Earhardt) Snyder where she enjoyed growing up on a farm. In 1957 she married Ray Ellis Burney in Hemingford, Nebraska. They later divorced. She worked for the Hemingford Public School District and cooked for harvesters while helping with her in-laws custom cutting business. In 1972 they moved to Cut Bank, Montana. She worked for Newman’s Repair Shop for several years prior to being employed as an Eligibility Technician, an Investigator and the Director for 27 years for the State of Montana/ Glacier Country Welfare Department. During her retirement years, she enjoyed substituting for the Cut Bank Public School District and volunteering at the Montana Reading Roundup. Throughout her life, she always enjoyed gardening (especially flowers), reading, visiting friends, cooking, and traveling. She enjoyed spending time with her family at their cabin at Pinnacle. Eva was so proud of her granddaughters and was always cheering them on in their many school activities, sports and education. Eva was a good and faithful servant serving as a Deacon, Elder, and member of Presbyterian Women at the First Presbyterian Church. Her faith was important to her and she shared it with others. She was a pillar of strength and love for her family and the many friends in her life. Eva’s favorite treat was ice cream.
Eva was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Elizabeth; brothers, George and Paul; sisters, Helen, Elizabeth, and Linda; her ex-husband, Ray; son-in-law, Scott; and numerous nephews and nieces.
She is survived by a son, Steve “Bugs” Burney of Cut Bank; daughters, Shawn (Ray) Christiaens and grandchildren Kate and Angie of Kevin and Sheryl Cook of Soldotna, Alaska; and a brother, Charlie Snyder of California.
