Evan Monroe King, better known as Dad, Grandpa Evan, or as his wife of nearly 60 years Jalene called him - pup, was born on November 20, 1942 in Havre, Montana to John and Vera King. Evan grew up in Havre with his big brother Bill and their sister Joy and later graduated from Shelby High School. Shortly after graduating he met his beloved pup Jalene Silberman and they started their journey together on December 21,1963. Evan and Jalene spent their early years of marriage in Germany where Evan served in the U.S. Army for 2 years. When back in the states they brought home their daughter Jodi and later on son Jamie. Between running the Husky truck stop in Shelby, working as the city building inspector, and raising his family Evan stayed quite busy. Evan was an avid baker and could always be found in his garden, and loved to build. When he wasn’t baking, gardening or building, Evan was busy chasing after his 6 grandkids. More loved than most, Evan spent his later years caring for his beloved pup Jalene. When it was time to go home, he was surrounded by those he loved most and could go peacefully knowing Jalene was in good hands. Evan was one of a kind and he left his mark everywhere he went. Whenever you are in a garden or baking a marionberry pie we hope you think of Evan and the beautiful life he had.
Evan left this earth early in the morning of September 2, 2023 and he will be missed more than he could ever know. His parents and sister preceded him in death. Survivors include wife Jalene, daughter Jodi Aklestad (Brian), son Jamie King (Juli), 6 grandchildren (Alyssa, Tasha, Drew Ann, Jake, Samantha and Jordyn), 3 great grandchildren (Logan, Luca and Mia), his brother Bill King (Saundra) of Spokane, sister-in-law Betty Lou Norenberg and many nieces and nephews.
