Angels watched over Florence Elaine (Thorsen) Johnson as she went to be home with her Savior on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at Northern Pines Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Cut Bank, Montana.
Florence was born on April 25, 1927, to Theodore and Inga (Skoyen) Thorsen in Hale, WI. She enjoyed school and was salutatorian of her graduating class. After school Florence worked as a bookkeeper at a local creamery.
It was at that time that she met, danced with, courted and married Clarence Johnson. Their first date was sharing popcorn at a movie. They married on November 6, 1954.
They moved to Montana in 1956 and lived in Sunburst until the fall of 2018, when Florence moved to Cut Bank. Clarence passed away in 1999.
Together they raised four children, (Linda, Lavina, Larry and Lyle). During those years, Florence was a 4-H leader and taught many children how to sew and cook. She was an avid seamstress and especially took pride in her needlework. Over the course of her life, she made hundreds of sets of beautifully embroidered dishtowels. Many of these were sold at the annual bazaar at the Lutheran Church of Sunburst, where she was chairperson of the bazaar for many years. Florence was able to embroider right up until the last weeks of her life, completing this years’ donation to the bazaar.
Florence enjoyed her many friends at the Parkview Senior Center and Northern Pines.
Florence is survived by her daughters, Linda Burley (Vince) of Cut Bank and Lavina Brennecke (Robb) of Kent, WA; sons, Larry Johnson (Sandy) of Kalispell and Lyle Johnson (Stefanie) of Newtown Square, PA; 9 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Leona Thorsen.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 44 years, Clarence; sister, Irene Mattison, brother, Archie Thorsen, and infant son, Curtis Eugene Johnson.
Memorials should be made out to the Lutheran Church of Sunburst. Florence enjoyed watching services online every Sunday after moving to Cut Bank.
A memorial service will be held at the Lutheran Church of Sunburst on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 2:00 pm.
