Fred Preitauer, 85, passed away March 10, 2018 at the Pondera Medical Center with his family by his side.
Fred was born October 9, 1932 to Fred and Beatrice Preitauer in Hewitt, Minnesota and was raised in Parkers Prairie, MN. He enlisted into the US Army and served for 2 years. After the Army, Fred moved to Conrad, MT where he met the love of his life, Nancy Moritz, in 1955. They were married on June 15, 1956. When Fred first moved to Conrad, he helped build homes and worked on farms. He and Nancy and their 3 children, Fred, Merrill, and Elaine, moved to Brady in 1966. After moving to Brady, their daughter, Carol, was born. Fred worked for P.V. Elevator in Conrad for a year and then for Equity Coop in Brady. He became the Sexton for Hillside Cemetery in Conrad in 1983 and continued until retiring in 1998.
Fred enjoyed many things throughout his life, but especially playing his steel guitar in a band for several years, watching his children and grandchildren play sports, working on small engines (he could fix anything), camping, fishing, and driving truck during harvest. He was always working on projects in his shop whether it be for Nancy or someone else in the community.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Isabelle; and brothers, Maynard and Johnny.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, 10 months, Nancy; four children, Fred (Laurie), Merrill, Elaine, and Carol (Kevin), 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the Brady United Methodist Church, Brady Community Hall, or Brady Volunteer Fire Department.
The family would like to extend an extra thank you to the staff of PMC, ambulance crew, Extended Care, and Hospice care for all your care and help while Fred was a resident in your care. A special thank you to Sam and Kim VanDam for your friendship and care while our Dad was your roommate at PMC Extended Care.
