Frederick James Walters passed away peacefully at home on June 7 th , 2016 at the age of 70.
Fred was born on October 7 th , 1945 in Cut Bank, Montana. Born and raised in Cut Bank, Fred worked various jobs in the oilfields of Northern Montana. He met his future wife, Judy Whitmore of Conrad Montana, and were married in 1966. They would have celebrated 50 years together on July 7, 2016.
Fred and his father Norman Walters joined Fred Martin in business at Montana Oil Well Cementers which was established in 1942. Fred eventually took over as owner/president and built the business into a very successful oil field services company which serviced the oil and gas fields of Northern Montana until his retirement in 2001.
Fred loved to hunt and fish and was a lifetime member of the NRA. He knew all the good fly fishing holes from Cut Bank Creek to the Sweet Grass Hills. He also enjoyed boating, a good Harley ride, and a hot craps table. Fred and Judy traveled to many places in the world and after he retired at age 56. They spent summers at their Echo Lake cabin and winters at their home in Cut Bank. He had many pets over the years and over the last 7 years was never separated from their mini Australian shepherd, Missy.
He was preceded in death by his father Norm Walters, mother Norma Lee Rademaker, and sister Sue Ann Mellinger.
He is survived by his wife Judy, son Bryan (Mary) Walters, daughter Kelly (Marvin) Fassett, and brother Doug Walters. Grandson’s Stephen Walters, Jared Walters and Ty Fassett. Granddaughter Danika Walters. Nephew Michael Mellinger and niece Shannon Ellingson. Great-nephew Josh Mellinger, Great nieces Alyssa Mellinger and Kylie Ellingson as well as many more nieces and nephews from the Stokes, Beaudry and Norden families.
Fred loved his friends and family. Long phone calls spanning several hours were normal and will be missed. Thank you to all the doctors and nurses which have provided outstanding care over the years.
Services will be held later in the summer at a date yet to be determined.
