Gary Wollan completed his journey on this earth and entered his eternal Home with Jesus on Sunday, June 11, 2017.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 17, at 4:00 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Burial to follow in Crown Hill Cemetery. A reception at the church will follow the burial.
Gary was born on March 22, 1938 in Beach, North Dakota to Leonard and Irene Wollan. He joined an older sister, Kay, and later became a big brother to Dean. His early years were spent in North Dakota and eastern Montana. At age 11, his family moved to Plentywood, where Gary graduated from high school in 1956. He followed in his father’s footsteps and pursued a degree in education.
After graduating from college, Gary accepted a teaching job in Cut Bank, where he met and married the love of his life, Sharon Peterson. He taught high school math, and later became an administrator and athletic director. He stayed in Cut Bank throughout his career in education, except for two years teaching in Cascade, MT. His passion for knowledge led him to pursue a Master’s Degree in Education, which he received in 1965. Gary left teaching in 1982 to work full-time on the farm. He always worked hard and pursued excellence in everything he did.
Gary and Sharon had four children: Mike, Nancy, Jennifer, and Eric. Their family later grew to include cherished daughters-in-law and sons-in-law and grandchildren.
He was a long-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and loved singing with the choir. Gary has enjoyed playing cards all his life, and he was a master of every game. Whether it was whist, cribbage, or pitch, he enjoyed the game and the people around the table. Dad was an avid reader and a notorious storyteller. He was the one we all went to for advice, help, or just words of encouragement.
Gary loved the mountains, and spent as much time as he could in Glacier Park with his friends and family. Our entire family will forever treasure our times with Dad in the mountains.
He joins his brother and sister in Heaven, and leaves his wife, Sharon; Mike and Arlene Wollan, Tanner, Jackson, and Paige; Nancy and Brent Scott, Abbey and Jenna; Jennifer and Tim Shaffer, Gabriella, Jadan, and Elliana; Eric and Jami Wollan, Michael and Macy.
Gary’s greatest joys were his beloved wife, Sharon, his kids, and his grandkids. His love for his family was and will always be his greatest glory. He was a man who touched thousands through his life and work
Gary and I were given 55 years together. We were gifted with four beautiful children and ten beautiful grandchildren. Thanks be to God! -Sharon
