Gladys was born on August 24, 1920 in Ketchikan, Alaska to Harry and Laura (Zwicker) Selig. She joined an older brother and sister and attended school in Ketchikan where she lived and later worked in a specialty bake shop. One evening while attending a USO dance, she met the man who became the love of her life, Alfred Klingler. They fell in love, married and moved to Shelby, Montana. There they spent 48 years, raising their children, spending time with their grandchildren, and being dedicated members of their church and community. Alfred has been waiting in heaven for Gladys for over 20 years.
Gladys loved being a homemaker and made it the focus of her life. She was an accomplished cook and was much appreciated for all of her donated baked goods and salads. She enjoyed crocheting and made dozens of afghans for her children and grandchildren only stopping when arthritis made it too painful to continue.
Gladys was a longtime and faithful member of the Community United Methodist Church. She belonged to the Ladies Aid Society and was a member of the VFW Ladies for over 50 years.
Gladys will be remembered for her faith in God, her special friendships with neighbors, her love of family, and her beautiful smile.
She is predeceased by her parents; her husband, Alfred; her brother, Harry Jr; and her sister, Winona. Survivors include her daughter, Carol (LeRoy) Johnson of Union, WA and son, Lindsey (Roberta) Klingler of Sunburst; 9 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; as well as 2 great-great-great-grandchildren.
