Hallie A Syth

Hallie Arthur Syth, age 91, died at Glacier Care Center in Cut Bank Montana, on Sunday November 10, 2013 of natural causes.

Born March 08, 1922, in Neillsville, Wisconsin, he was raised and educated in Sidney, Montana, before settling in Cut Bank. He served two years in the Civilian Conservation Corp at Camp Nine Mile, Alberton, Montana.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June of 1941 and serving until 1947. He was a survivor of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, serving aboard the USS Perry (DMS-17). Hallie was entitled to wear the following ribbons and bronze battle stars*:  Asiatic Pacific*, Philippine Liberation*, World War II Victory Medal, American Area Ribbon, American Defense Ribbon*.

Hallie worked for the Montana Department of Highways for 30 years until retiring in 1978 and then went on to work for Western Maintenance Cleaning Service of Great Falls for six years.  Hallie was a longtime member of the Cut Bank Moose Club.

Survivors include his sons, Ron (Elaine) Syth of Spokane, WA and Randy Syth of Altamonte Springs, FL; daughters, Wanda Ferguson of Billings and Patti (Tom) Reardon of Cut Bank; as well as 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Hallie was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, in 1999.

A visitation is scheduled for 1–7 pm on Thursday, November 14, at the Whitted Funeral Chapel in Cut Bank.  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m, Friday, November 15, also at the Whitted Funeral Chapel followed by burial with military honors in the Crown Hill Cemetery. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend the reception at the Moose Club immediately following the burial.
