Harry M. Moritz passed away on April 16, 2024, surrounded by family 18 days shy of his 90th birthday. This date coincidently is the 120th anniversary of the Moritz family coming to Montana. He was born in Conrad, on May 4, 1934, to Emil "Billy" and Esther (Faire) Moritz. His was the first senior class to graduate from the current high school building. After high school worked for a short time at Dick's Conoco and then for Scoop Selansky's Grocery.
On June 11, 1956 he married Veronica Buschke, they were married for 42 years, until her death in 1998. Together they raised their two children, Larry and Pamela.
Harry started working for Hannah & Holmes Implement in 1957, first in Conrad and then in Shelby. Hannah & Holmes was sold to Munson Equipment, and he worked there until he retired after 39 years. After that he also worked for a short time at Northwest Farm Equipment in Conrad.
On March 15, 2003 he married Karen Huntsinger, which brought him new step-children, Lana, Lisa, Brett and their families. Unfortunately, Karen passed away in 2004.
He was a great Dad and loved spending time with family, especially the grand kids that called him "Boppie" or "Grampa Harry", he always had time for them. Sports, birthdays, and holidays were all the better.
Dad has always loved country music and taught himself to play the guitar at 12 years old. There were weekly jam either in our front room, the lobby of Hannah & Holmes, or Bill Hick's garage. On the weekend, for many years, you could find the "Country Boys" playing in an area bar. Later, along with his brother Bob and Allen Wittmier, they formed "the Group". "The Group" could be found playing at anniversaries, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, funerals and more, any place that enjoyed classic country music. Dad also played accompaniment and sang with a fiddler’s group and an awesome accordion group.
Next on the list was camping, fishing and snowmobiling, and a little hunting, depending on the season. To him it was more about the day with friends and family than anything else. He especially enjoyed the family camping trips to Green Gulch and hunting camp in Tenderfoot.
He will be truly missed by all his family and friends.
