Helene M Lerum

April 29, 1925 — July 29, 2012

Helene Margarethe Lerum, 87, a long time Sweet Grass area farm wife, died of natural cause Sunday, July 29th at Colorado Springs. Visitation is Thursday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at the Whitted Funeral Chapel in Shelby. Funeral services are 2:00 PM Friday at Lutheran Church of Sunburst, burial to follow in the Sweet Grass Cemetery.
Pastor Patricia Callaghan will officiate at the services.
Our beloved mom, gramma and great-gramma went to heaven while in the loving care of her daughter Shelley and her family.
She was born April 29, 1925 at Hanau, Germany the youngest daughter of Karl & Emma Zoeller. She attended schools in Hanau and eventually become a court secretary. When Helene was 21 years old, she met Peter Lerum at Hanau while he was stationed there with the US Army during WW2. They were married Dec. 14, 1947 at the Lutheran Church of Sunburst. Together, they farmed for over fifty years east of Sweet Grass where they created treasured memories while raising their five children.
She became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1952. She was a life time member of the Lutheran Church of Sunburst and the American Legion Auxiliary. Helene enjoyed spending time with her family, crocheting, sewing, creating flower arrangements and doing word search puzzles.
Helene is survived her sons Michael (Sharon) Lerum of Sweet Grass, Lance (Jan) Lerum of Townsend, and Mark (Terri) Lerum of Helena; daughters, Marilyn (Alan) Barta of Helena and Shelley (Dick) Pilibosian Monument, COLO; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Peter in 2000; her parents; four sisters and three brothers.
The family suggests memorials to the Lutheran Church of Sunburst.
