Hugh M Jackson

December 19, 1935 — May 29, 2013

Hugh “Buddy” Monroe Jackson, whose Indian name was ‘Ma Koyii  Poyoktsi  Rising Wolf’, 77,  an anthropologist from Cut Bank, passed away Wednesday, May 29,  at the Northern Rockies Medical Center. Memorial services will be 1:00 pm, Wednesday, June 5, at the Cut Bank Moose Lodge. Burial with military honors will follow in the St. Michael’s Cemetery at Browning.  Whitted Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

He was born December 19, 1935 at Cut Bank to Hugh William and Ella (Krueger) Maddy . He grew up on a ranch near the Milk River and later in Browning where he attended elementary school.  He graduated from the University of Montana with a degree in Anthropology.

Hugh served 2 years active duty with the US Marine Corps with 8 years active reserve. He also served 3 years active duty with the US Army.

Hugh was a jack of all trades, a member of the Methodist Church and enjoyed old western and war movies.

Survivors include his daughter, Elizabeth (Mike) Billedeaux of Cut Bank; sister, Thelma “Boota” Spence of Portland, OR, along with numerous nieces & nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Wanda Joyce Jackson; grandson, David Grant Jackson and siblings, Wesley, Lejuene, Ethel, Marie, Evelyn, Caroline, Mae and Juanita.
