Iola Mary (Nissen) Johnson

October 11, 1921 — September 17, 2015

Iola Mary Johnson, age 93, of Cut Bank, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Glacier Care Center in Cut Bank.

A rosary/vigil service will be 7:00 pm on Wednesday, September 23 and a memorial mass will be 10:30 am on Thursday, September 24, both at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Cut Bank.  Iola will be inurned at Crown Hill Cemetery in Cut Bank.  A reception for family and friends will follow back at the church hall.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitted Funeral Chapel in Cut Bank.  Please visit Iola’s online memorial and leave a message of condolence for the family at www.whittedfunealchapel.com.

Iola was born in St. Cloud, MN to Jacob and Sarah Ann Murphy Nissen but lived in Pipestone, MN.  When Iola was 6 years old, the family moved to a little town called Hanks, ND and she remained there until she graduated from high school.  She married Clifford J. Johnson in North Dakota on June 4, 1949.

Iola was a waitress, cook and her favorite, a baker.  She was renowned for her cinnamon rolls, pies and many other goodies.  She retired at the young age of 85.  She was a member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Cut Bank and also participated in the CCW and the VFW.  She loved to garden, bake and spend time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters Dorothy and Lori Johnson of Cut Bank, MT, grandchildren John Jones of Grayslake, IL and Kathleen Jones of Cut Bank, MT as well as two great grandchildren Taylor and Lexis Jones.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Clifford J. Johnson, daughter Charlene A. Jones and son (in-law) Ben Jones.  Iola had 10 brothers and sisters who have all passed on as well.
