Ivan ‘Ike’ Jay Postma, 74, retired agriculture mechanic from Kevin, passed away at Benefis Hospital in Great Falls on August 23, 2012, from natural causes. Funeral services with military honors will be 1:00 pm Monday at the Whitted Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until service time. Ike was born March 17, 1938 to Ivan and Johanna (Jager) Postma in Zeeland, Michigan. He grew up and was educated in Holland, Michigan until he joined the Air Force, which brought him to Montana where he served at Malstrom Air Force base as an airplane mechanic.
He and Patricia Schimetz were married in Bozeman on November 27, 1958. They moved to the Flathead Valley where they raised their family of 10 children in Somers. They then moved to Kevin where they currently reside.
While living in the Flathead Valley, he was a renowned agriculture mechanic being able to repair a combine in 3 hours what took others 8 hours to do. He worked many years in the oil field and was a member of the Kevin Fire Department for over 20 years, and served as Chief for several years.
Ike is survived by his wife, Patricia of Kevin; children, Jane Postma and Bob (Patsy) Postma of Shelby, Lorraine Postma of Belgrade, Diana Postma, Bud (Kris) Postma, Doug (Lori) Postma and Brad (Beverly) Postma all of Kevin, Nicole (Rob) Matoon of Great Falls, Amy Postma and Brandi Postma of Bozeman; sisters, Mary Postma, Betty (Jim) Olin, Pat (Earl) Moore and Barb (Tim) Calvo; brothers, James (Ethel) Postma and Roger Postma; twenty-three grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Jo; his mother-in-law and father-in-law; sister-in-law, Tess; and brother-in-law, Bobby.
