Jane Elizabeth Svalstad was born April 1, 1943 in Forsyth. Her parents were Clifford and Katherine Campbell. She tragically passed away in a car accident on Wednesday, April 25, 2018.
A Memorial Service will be held in the Cut Bank High School Auditorium at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 5.
In her younger years she attended a country school where her mother was the teacher. After graduating from Custer High School, she attended Montana State University obtaining degrees in Math and Home Economics in 1965. Later Jane would receive a Masters Degree in Adult Education.
Jane worked as a Home Extension Agent in Polson and Ronan, later working as the Home Extension Agent for Glacier County. In 1973 she traveled to New York City to accept the National Florence Hall award for her work as a Home Extension Agent.
Jane met Allen Svalstad in Browning and they were married Aug. 24, 1974 at her parents’ home in Thompson Falls. They became the proud parents of Daniel whom they adopted Oct. 14, 1978.
After moving to Browning in 1974, Jane taught Home Economics and Math to middle school students. In 1989 the family moved to Cut Bank. Jane continued teaching in Browning for several years. In 2003 she began teaching at the prison in Shelby.
Jane loved to write poetry. Family and friends looked forward to reading her New Year’s letter in verse. Drawing was another of her talents and she was always busy working on various crafts.
Jane had many friends and was very involved with her faith family.
She is survived by her husband, Allen; son, Daniel (Bekah); granddaughters, Taylor Head and Caitlin Lane; and brother, Clifford (Diane) Campbell.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
