Jim Peterson

March 21, 1943 — July 23, 2017

James G. Peterson, age 74, passed away on July 23rd at Northern Rockies Medical Center, after a long, hard fought battle with cancer.

Graveside services will be held Friday, July 28, at 1:00 PM at Crown Hill Cemetery. A Reception at the Cut Bank Moose Lodge following the service.

Jim was born March 21, 1943 in Conrad, MT to John and Florence Peterson. The family moved to Cut Bank when he was a baby and he resided there until his death. He attended Cut Bank Schools and graduated in 1961 from CBHS.

Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Germany from 1964 – 1966. After his discharge, he returned to Cut Bank and worked for Abercrombie Construction as a backhoe operator. In 1974 he started his own company, Peterson Excavation and did work for all the oil companies in the area. Jim sold the business in 1990 and began work with the Cut Bank School System as a para-professional with the Special Education Department. He had found his calling. He loved the kids he worked with and made a difference in their lives. He retired from the school in 2010.

Jim was an avid sports fan. The LA Dodgers, Green Bay Packers, and Phil Mickelson were his favorites. Because of his love for sports, he became a coach for t-ball, Little League, Jr High Football, and High School Softball. When telling stories about his coaching days, he would remember every play that was ever made (good and bad) whether it was little league, Jr High football, or his High School Softball team.

He was married July 3, 1969 to Paula Eney. They celebrated 48 years of marriage this year. They have 3 children, Matt Peterson of Phoenix, AZ, Julie Monroe of Cut Bank, and Cory Peterson of Cut Bank and was a proud Papa of 6 grandsons: Judd, Jake, Maxx, Tate, Sawyer, and Crosby.

Jim is survived by his wife Paula, daughter Julie (Rich) Monroe, Matt Peterson, Cory (Jaime) Peterson, his six grandsons, his sister Colleen Murphy, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Phyllis Eagling and Bev Edens, and his brother Duane Peterson.

Donations may be given to the Gift of Life Foundation in Great Falls, MT.
