John Monroe

August 28, 1939 — October 15, 2016

John G. Monroe “Doughboy”, 77, passed away on October 15, 2016 at Benefis Healthcare in Great Falls.

Services will be held at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Cut Bank on Friday, October 21, at 2:00 PM.

John was born in Browning on August 28, 1939 to George Guardipee and Barbara Monroe.  He grew up in Browning and was senior class president and graduated with honors from Browning High School.

He married Ida George and they had two children; daughter, Rhonda and son, Kelly.  They later divorced.  His second marriage was to Gerry Hamelin and two sons were born; John, Jr. and Richard.  Gerry passed away in 1993.  In 2000, John married Kay Jessop.

John worked for many years as a land surveyor and was an avid musician and made many friends playing the music that he loved.  He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports, telling stories, and entertaining his friends and family with food and music.

John is survived by his wife, Kay; daughter, Rhonda Fenner; sons, Kelly and Richard; step-daughters, Barbara Middle Rider and Gerri Ann Galvin; step-sons, Henry Montelongo, Jim Jessop, John Jessop, and Jack Jessop; sister, Jean; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, John, Jr.; and wife, Gerry.
