K Lloyd 'Kayo' Knutson

K. Lloyd (Kayo) Knutson, 93, a long time Devon-Dunkirk area farmer, passed away Monday, October 1, 2012 at the Marias Care Center. Visitation is Sunday from noon to 8:00 pm at the Whitted Funeral Chapel, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, October 8, with burial to follow in the Mountain View Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Shelby Fire Station.
Survivors include his son, Kevin (Lanell) Dodson of Dunkirk; two grandchildren, Trevor & Amanda Dodson of Dunkirk; sister, Lorene Johnson of Havre; sister in law, Paula Knutson of Shelby; nieces, Marie Ann Toldness of Havre, Jo Ann Savage of Walla Walla, WA and Kris Bottino of Kennewick, WA; nephew, Tom Saldin of Boise, ID; eight grand-nieces and nephews; two great-grand nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Hazel; sister, Thelma; brothers, Leonard, Alton, twins Odin & Ike, and an infant baby brother; brothers-in-law, Robert Saldin and Eli Johnson.
He was born at the family home in Devon September 23, 1919 to Leonard H. and Nettie (Roland) Knutson. There he grew up and attended elementary school in Devon and Galata and then graduated in 1936 from Shelby High School at the age of 16. Following graduation he continued farming with his dad and brothers, and then farmed with his son until the age of 89. In 2009 he moved into the Marias Heritage Center for four months before entering the Marias Care Center where he remained until his death.
In 1966 he married Hazel Wilson Dodson at Coeur d’Alene, ID, and the couple farmed between Devon and Dunkirk for many years. Hazel passed away in 1984.
He was a confirmed member of the Devon Lutheran Church and was a member of the Shelby Elk’s Lodge and the NRA. Kayo enjoyed hunting, building things and tinkering in his shop. He enjoyed his pets but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved going gopher hunting with Trevor and enjoyed drinking hot cocoa and orange juice with Trevor and Amanda.
Kayo will be greatly missed by his family.
