Katherine (Weiss) Vasboe

January 13, 1918 — October 14, 2013

Katherine (Kate) Vasboe, 95, of Cut Bank, died October 14, 2013 at the Glacier Care Center due to natural causes. Cremation has taken place.  Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, October 19, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with Pastor Carin Bjorn von Letzendorf officiating. Inurnment of ashes will be at 4:00 pm in the Crown Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be donated to organizations of the donor’s choice.   Whitted Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Kate was born on January 13, 1918 to Fredrick & Elizabeth (Losing) Weiss at the Weiss homestead north of Cut Bank. Her father passed away in November of 1918 during the flu epidemic leaving Elizabeth to raise four children. She attended Boundary School through the eighth grade. On November 3, 1938 she and Theodore C. Vasboe were united in marriage. They had four children, Betty (Jim) Jeffries of Spokane, WA, Doris (Dennis) Winter of Cut Bank, Jay (Kathy) Vasboe of Cut Bank and Mark (Shelia) Vasboe of Arvada, CO.

She is survived by children, Doris, Jay and of Mark; grandchildren, Todd (Kelli) Jeffries and Shannon (Jim) Bittner all of Spokane, WA, Janice (Jay) Cota of Roundup, Lynette(Dan) Wichman of Billings, Shane (Desirae) Vasboe and Joey Vasboe both of Cut Bank, Brynn (Travis) Boyd and Brandon Vasboe both of the Denver, CO ; area as well as twenty great-grandchildren with one more due in February 2014.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ted in 1980; daughter, Betty in 2010; sister, Rose Berkram; brothers Gothelf Weiss and Fred Weiss; as well as many other relatives in the Cut Bank area.

Kate was very proud of her family and was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed her life on the ranch and loved crocheting, being a homemaker along with cooking and baking. She liked going to the north country dances and visiting with all her many friends. After she got her first phone, the line stayed hot most of the time. She was able to live on her own until October of 2011 when she moved into assisted living at Glacier Care Center.
