Kathy Walter

Conrad

Kathy S. Walter, of Conrad Montana, gained her angel wings on December 25, 2024.

Visitation will be Friday, January 3, from 5 to 7:00 pm at Asper/Pondera Funeral Home. Services will be held on Saturday, January 4th, 2025 at the Pondera Valley Lutheran Church at 2:00pm in Conrad, MT. A private burial will follow at the Walter Family Farm/Cemetery.

Kathy was born in Conrad to Palmar and Hildur Gustafson. She graduated from Conrad High School in 1977. Kathy married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Gerald (Gerry) in June of 1976. From this union, they had two beautiful children. Susan (Suzy) and Gary. They spent time raising their two children Susan and Gary, working hard, and installing the core values that defined both of their children and were passed onto their children as well. Her love was endless and she cherished every moment with them. Kathy was so proud of the accomplishments of her children and cherished her three grandchildren. She not only cherished them, but also many other children and grown children who she always took time to assure they were taken care of. Her efforts were not done for acknowledgement, this simply was Kathy. Whether it be a few short words, a gesture or a home cooked meal, Kathy was always providing and knew what needed to be done.

Kathy's life was filled with passions that were pursued with great joy and commitment. She was an exceptional leader of faith at the Lutheran church school, where she not only imparted knowledge but also instilled values of kindness and compassion in her students both through lessons she taught and examples she led by. Her love for horses was well known. Not only with Gerry and her children , but her grandchildren as well. Her kitchen was a warmth of comfort, where family and friends could gather and share wonderful food, memories and also speak of past memories. One particular favorite was her banana bread. She could not keep enough bananas around because her banana bread was gone before she could bake the next loaf. Kathy was a devoted mother and wife. In her younger years she worked as a cook at Pondera Medical Center. She then ventured to the local grocery store where she held a variety of positions over the years until her retirement in 2020. One of her favorite positions was when she shopped and delivered groceries to local residents. Kathy will be dearly missed. Daughter, Suzy; Son Gary (Jennifer); Grandchildren, Aiden, Grace, Harley; Sister, Phyllis Neary, Sister, Bev (Ron) Widhlam, Brother, Cliff Gustafon, Sister, Carol (Dave) Thornton, Teri (Marlin) Gustafson and numerous nieces and nephews. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents ,Palmar and Hildur Gustafson, her spouse, Gerry Walter and her brother Marlin Gustafson.

Let us celebrate Kathy’s life with gratitude for the time we shared and the love we received. May we find solace in our memories and strength in one another. As we honor her, let us carry forward her legacy of faith, love, and giving, and strive to live our lives with the same grace and compassion that she did.

Thank you, Mom, for everything. You will be forever missed, and eternally loved. Our Dad received his bride back for eternity now.
