Larry Goroski, 62, of Shelby and Glendive, died of a sudden heart attack on Saturday, April 25, 2020 after spending the day fishing. Larry, who is commonly known as Lar by his family and friends, was born November 29, 1957, in Baker to George and Bonnie Goroski.
Larry spent his childhood in Rapid City, SD, where he is remembered for his love of baseball, his multiple broken arms, and his puns and phrases that he learned from his Granny. Lar moved to Glendive as a teenager, where he appreciated the times he spent with his Aunt Gloria and Uncle Ira before meeting the love of his life, Kerry. Lar won her over with his unforgettable smile and salt of the earth authenticity. They married at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church on September 28, 1979 in Glendive.
At that time Larry was a pipeline worker. In his early thirties he decided to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Health & Industrial Hygiene from Montana Tech in Butte. After college, he moved his young family to Shelby and accepted the Safety Supervisor position at Dick Irvin Inc, where he worked for 27 years. Throughout Larry’s career, he was recognized for his outstanding leadership on the Safety Management Council for the Montana Motor Carriers Association, as well as, the Safety Committee for the Montana Contractors Association.
Lar and Ker raised three children together, Sarah, Jade and Kyle. For Larry, his kids came first no matter what. There were times when Larry had to spend days away from his young family to work and the kids remember that he would always bring home donuts or some kind of treat for them when he returned. Larry would always find a way to balance his college curriculum and work obligations so that he could find time to coach his boys in baseball and attend all three of his kid’s basketball games.
Larry loved to hunt and fish, but even more so, he loved teaching his kids and later his grandkids about the outdoors. After raising his children, Larry did not know that he could feel such a deep sense of pride and joy for his four grandchildren. He loved his grandchildren deeply.
As a self-taught mechanic, carpenter and all-around handyman, Larry could fix or do anything. Although Larry was the “safety guy” at work, ironically, when it came to his (many) home improvement projects for Kerry and Sarah, he did not follow a strict safety protocol.
Larry was a good man. He was a son, brother, husband, father and grandpa with many jokes, perceptive wisdom and a well-known smile. Larry will be missed very much and lovingly remembered always.
