Laura Kay Douglas

On April 7th, 2020 at 10:13pm Laura K. Krueger-Douglas passed away as a result of a short battle with cancer. At the time Laura was surrounded by all four of her children and went to meet God knowing she was loved by many.

Laura K was born to Madeline “Babe” Krueger and George Krueger on February 13th, 1942 in Shelby. Laura spent her childhood in Sweetgrass and remained in Sweetgrass for most of her life. Laura is survived by her brother, Chuck Thompson of Elko, NV; her children, Robert (Beth Kordonowy) Cook of Dutton, Susan (Clayton) Bock of Milk River, Alberta,  Jonette (Cleve) Johannsen of Sunburst, and Mary Jo Meyer of Sunburst; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren with 2 more due to be born anytime; and her cousins, whom she considered her sisters, Lynn Skillman, Cheryl Rounds, Karen “Karet” Smith, and Launi Gabriel.

Laura loved her town, Sweetgrass, and spending time with her lifelong friends, Eva Campanian (deceased), Ila Prelwitz, Shirley Nelson, Edith Clark, and Patty Aneca. She also loved gardening and cooking. Christmastime at Laura’s usually consisted of many family members and friends. No one ever went away hungry. In fact, even those who were not hungry were told to eat. It was one of Laura’s ways of showing those she cared about that she loved them, and she loved and cared for everyone.

Laura’s “Texas Size” heart also extended to strays, misfits, and runt animals. She hated to see any animal go hungry and was often seen feeding a stray cat or dog, and even a runt piglet one time. There was a time when Laura was told about a runt piglet that was probably not going to survive. Laura took the piglet into her home, and there she nursed and tended to the piglet until it became strong enough to survive on its own and take care of itself.

Laura departure has left a hole in the hearts of many that will never be filled, but those who knew and loved her also know she is finally home with her Mother, and the many friends who went before her in heaven.

A Memorial Service will be scheduled for a later date at the Legion Hall in Sweetgrass, and burial will be private. Her Family would like to take this opportunity and thank the nursing staffs at Northern Rockies Medical Center, Glacier Care Center, the Heritage Center in Shelby, Benefis Hospital in Great Falls, everyone who took the time to visit her and bring her flowers (she loved receiving flowers), and finally Doctor  Clary, with whom she loved to argue. Thank you ALL.
