Lee Ann Julia (Stone) Bundy of Cut Bank, MT passed away peacefully in her sleep the morning of August 4, 2013 at the Glacier Care Center. A celebration of her life will be held at 5:00 pm at the Moose Lodge in Cut Bank on September 14 th .
Lee Ann was born April 5, 1937 at the Blackfeet Indian Hospital to Joseph B. and Mary Esther (Fitzgerald) Stone. She spent a lot of her young life in the Cut Bank Boarding School where her mother worked as a matron in the girl’s dormitory. She also attended school in Browning and eventually in Cut Bank, where she graduated from high school in 1955. The family moved from place to place, eventually ending up in Cut Bank where her father worked for Union Oil Company. Joe was also a cattleman and worked for the government during wartime. Lee Ann loved her father very much and said that her favorite memories of her childhood were of the times they spent together. Her father taught her everything about ranch life and Lee Ann was a very good help for her father, from farming to taking care of the animals. Animals were very important to her and she truly loved them. At one time she even rescued and raised an orphaned baby antelope.
She had many different jobs in her lifetime. She worked for the title company, tended bar and probably what she was most famous for was a cook and a very good one. Lee Ann cooked at The Ranch, the Winner’s Circle, The Glacier, and at the Cut Bank Golf Course. This was probably her second most passionate job, and don’t ask her for a recipe, because it was all in her head.
She married the love of her life Richard Kenaloo Bundy on March 15, 1959. They went on to have three children whom they raised the ranching way. Lee Ann’s focuses in life were her animals and her family. She worked hard on the ranch as well, farming, taking care of the animals, cooking, butchering chickens and the poor pigs didn’t have much left to eat after Mom helped Dad butcher beef. “A good Indian doesn’t waste good food” she would say. She was always there with an open heart, love, respect and the ingredients for a batch of cookies. She will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lee Ann is survived by her sons Dr. Joseph B. Stone III (Deanna) of Gallup, N.M. and Richard Kevin (Cheri) Bundy; daughters Keli (Danny) Murphy and Stacy Layne (Hyland Layne); grandchildren Court Nelson, Cassie (Jeff) Billman, Shelly Bundy, Devin Bundy, Morgan Bundy, Kyle (Jana) Murphy, Jace Murphy, Baylee Layne, Kaycee Layne, Hylee Layne, Jerry Stone and Jesse Stone; great-grandchildren River Billman, Mercedes Murphy and Lorelei Jeter. She is also survived by four nieces Liane (Jerry) Johnson of Cut Bank, Sandy (Ray) Dunham of Great Falls, Bobbi Hanson of Seattle and Mayme Hanson of Dallas. Lee Ann’s surviving cousins are Marie Palmer, Larry Whitford, Margie Gardipee, Loretta Rex, Paul Fitzgerald, and Jim Fitzgerald She also leaves behind her precious Penny (the dog) and cute Callie (the cat).
She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 54 years Richard K. Bundy; parents, Joseph B. and Mary Esther Stone; and brother, Joseph B. Stone II.
