Leonard (Lennie) Harvey Nygaard, known as “Yogi” to his friends, 84 of Cut Bank, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2012 due to natural causes. A memorial service will be held Friday, November 9, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cut Bank Assembly of God Church with a reception to follow at the Moose Lodge.
Leonard was born on September 14, 1928 to Hjalmer and Esther (Kragness) Nygaard on the farm in Sverdup Township, Minnesota. He graduated from Underwood High School in 1947. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the Army in May of 1947. He was stationed in Cut Bank. He worked on many farms in the Cut Bank area after leaving the army. He married Jacqueline (Jackie) Kofoed in May of 1955 in Cut Bank.
Leonard and Jackie settled in Cut Bank to raise their 6 children: Lynn, Dale, Dean, Letta, Bobby, and Barb. He worked hard for the Montana Highway Department for 27 years, before retiring in 1990. After retirement, Lennie and Jackie lived in Oak Harbor, WA for 9 years. Lennie enjoyed taking walks, having his coffee with his friends, playing cards, gardening, collecting coins, taking rides in the mountains, camping, and taking long walks, and being with his family.
He will be deeply missed by his children, Lynn (Greg) Gluth of Helena, Dale Nygaard of Cut Bank, Dean (Karen) Nygaard of Bothell, WA, Letta (Alan) Meaux of Oak Harbor, WA, and Barb Nygaard of Great Falls; 13 grandchildren; and 16 ¼ great-grandchildren; four nephews and one niece; and his beloved dog, Zoe.
