Lester Schock

Lester Schock, age 93, passed away November 17, 2014 in Great Falls, Montana.

Lester was born on May 23, 1921 in Lehr, North Dakota to William and Karolina (Morlock) Schock.  He grew up in the Marsh and Mildred area of Eastern Montana where his parents farmed.  The family later moved to Fairfield, Montana where he was drafted into the army in 1944.  Lester landed on Normandy Beach on June 6, 1944 and was part of the 3807 QM Truck Company that supplied ammunition to the troops on the front lines in France, Belgium, and Germany.  After the war he returned to the states and was honorably discharged.  He came home to Montana where he worked at the Nash garage, in Great Falls, meeting Esther Bucher who was a bookkeeper there. They married on April 25, 1947.  Lester and Esther moved to the Thomas Ranch in the Sweetgrass Hills in 1948 and worked there until they left in 1965.  Two children were born there, Sharon in 1948 and Rick in 1951.  They moved the family to Sunburst in 1965 and Lester worked for Normont Triangle Farms eventually going to work for Burlington Northern Railroad where he retired in 1983.

Lester is survived by his daughter Sharon (Kenny) Berthelote, son Rick (Lana) Schock, all of Sunburst, brother Richard (Iris) Schock of Great Falls, grandchildren Tawna (Jason) Hanson, Shane (Teresa) Berthelote, Melody (Steffen) Dalland, and Ericka (Jared) Dowd, nine great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and close friends Bill and Dottie Moss

He was preceded in death by his wife Esther, a brother and a sister.

Memorial service will be 11:00 am on Saturday, November 29, at Sunburst Lutheran Church in Sunburst, Montana.  Military honors will follow at the Sunburst Cemetery.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Sunburst Lutheran Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitted Funeral Chapel in Shelby.
