It was Sunday morning, November 13, 2016 in Cut Bank, Montana and Lloyd Hanson got dead.
He was born in the old hospital in Cut Bank to Ray and Bernita (Jeep) Hanson. Other than rheumatic fever in 2 nd grade he had a wonderful childhood, with friends like Jimmy the P, and transforming the chicken house to his other home. He loved bikes, riding them, fixing them, and taking trips on motorcycles. Lloyd and grandson Colby had many adventures together and explored all of Montana, which were some great memories for both of them. He loved his Maxx very much.
After graduating from Cut Bank High School in 1963, he took the train to Spokane and barber school. He didn’t get his license however, as the Vietnam War was happening and he joined the Navy, spending 4 years in Virginia Beach working on the A-6, the “Intruder” with Fighter Squadron AV42. Both these events were major events in his life and he had many stories to tell.
Lloyd moved back to Cut Bank and married Judy Howell on Sept. 28, 1975 and Brandy is their only child. He helped raise Judy’s sons from a previous marriage. They later divorced. He married his High School friend Diane Salois in May of 2011.
Lloyd had so many different occupations and talents it is hard to mention them all. Ask him about something, he’d say, “I did that”. He worked on road construction of I-15 north of Shelby, he worked at Anderson Farm as a hired man. He loved the cows and all animals and worried about every little child being safe. From the ASCS office, he was hired at then Glacier Electric and worked over 25 years before retiring in 2010.
Lloyd’s artistry, humor, inventiveness and love of words are sorely missed. He suffered from dementia in his later years and if he couldn’t remember you, he did remember his Navy buddies, Marty and Doc. He said goodbye to many friends before he went to join them.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wonderful grandparents.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Diane, daughters Brandy (Tracy) Kiefer, Shannon (Scott) Gongora, stepsons Doug (Gail), Scott (Korette) and Jeff (Michelle), grandchildren Zach, Kordel, Kelsey, Miles, Hannah, Eli, Colby, Molly, Lindy, Tanner, Trevin, and Kaden, sisters Judy (Gary) Feland, Claire and the late Bob Shannon, and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
A memorial service is planned for Thursday, November 17 th at 2:00 p.m. in the Glacier Electric hospitality room with burial to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to any animal shelter or the charity of your choice in Lloyd’s memory.
