Valier

LaLonnie Lea (Ingebrigtson) Stokes, 74, passed on September 28, 2020. Lonnie was born March 27, 1946 in Great Falls to Karl and Celia Ingebrigtson.  She was the youngest of four children.  The family moved to Valier when Lonnie started school.  Lonnie began dating Bill Stokes in high school and they were married on August 1, 1964.  They stared their family with Johnny who was born in January of 1965 and Jacki in December of 1965.

When Johnny and Jacki were in school, Lonnie started her many years of working in the school lunchroom.  She also had a gift for writing and enjoyed writing the Valier news in the Valierian and the newsletter for the Valier Lutheran Church.  She ran the church school program and cleaned the church until cancer treatments made it too difficult.  The treatments would make her have to give up being an election judge, as well.  She was a member of the Valier Lutheran Church altar guild and women’s group.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Bill; son, Johnny (Janet) of Valier; daughter, Jacki Habets of Shelby; grandchildren, Brittany (Jeremy) Barnes of Magna, UT, Robby Stokes of Shelby, Chrissy Stokes of Dillon, Sammi Habets of Joplin, and Josh Habets of Havre; great granddaughters, Nayvie and Oaklea Barnes both of Magna, UT; and many honorary grandkids; brother, Karl Ingebrigtson of Great Falls; sisters, Lorraine Severson of Bellevue, WA and Phyllis McGrew of Whitefish; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials in honor of Lonnie Stokes can be made to the Valier Lutheran Church, Sletten Cancer Institute, or Peace Hospice House in Great Falls.

Private funeral service will be Saturday, October 10, at Valier Lutheran Church followed by a public graveside at Lakeview Cemetery at 11:00 AM.
